Wall Ball Dedication

The wall is built and as of 12 noon today kids were already putting it to use. Over 100 plus turned out at the Madison County Recreation Department today to dedicate the Wall Ball court in memory of Tyler Fortson Moon. Fellow students, parents, family, friends and even some locals who have at some point been involved in sports with Tyler attended.
The ribbon cutting took place with Tyler's parents cutting the ribbon on each entrance on the gates of the court. The family, grand parents as well, tossed the first pitch towards the wall. Hand prints of those involved in the construction of the wall were printed from top to bottom of the wall. The ceremony opened with Rodney Rogers, who led the construction and fund raising efforts, receiving a plaque of recognition from Madison County Commissioner Anthony Dove.

Predictions

My predictions for this weekend.

Habersham Central by 13 over Madison County
Georgia by 20 over Ole Miss
Florida State by 2 over Clemson

For the parents....it's a lot of fun for us also

We are getting ready to wrap up middle school volleyball, which will also be my daughter's final middle school season, I think of how much fun the girls have had playing the game and forming new friendships. It's not only fun for our kids out there playing each sport but it's also a lot of fun for us parents sitting in the stands each week. Friendships are also formed between parents. Getting to know those who we might pass in the roads or wherever-actually meeting these people and forming new friendships is part of our enjoyment as we watch our kids play. We sit back and talk about our fast pace lives of shipping our kids from location to location for practice or road trips. We talk about how we keep the fast food businesses running due to our fast pace schedules that hardly include dinner breaks. We sometimes second guess coaches or officials calls and we sometimes just simply laugh at each other.
Despite all the "living on the roadways" and hardly remembering what our homes look like during different seasons, we can all admit the the enjoyment we get from watching our kids have fun is priceless. And at the same time, our enjoyment of meeting new friends and striking up conversations with old friends during these times is a benefit we get to enjoy.
Just tonight as I have been trying to figure out this new layout of Facebook, I have been reading  posts from a lot of girls that I use to coach back in the mid 90's. It only took one person to get the ball rolling down memory lane. That trip was soon joined by a long lists of posts from old players with their memories of old times.
Back during those years or these we are in right now with our own kids, do we realize that we are opening new pages of memories each game, match or whatever the event is that we all assemble at? Some of those memories we end up forgetting but then again most of those memories are always in our minds. The good times and even the bad; they never leave us.
I know for all of us it can seem like the rush of going to ball fields and gyms several times in one week will kill us. The endless nights of rushing from work to ball fields or gyms and grabbing a burger somewhere on the way home from away games can wear us down. But despite all of that, when it's all said and done and these days have past and our kids are grown, we'll know it was all worth it. Then our kids as grown ups can chat about the old times and memories from these days we are in now. Priceless!

Wall Ball Dedication Set For Saturday

The Wall Ball court in memory of Tyler Fortson Moon will be dedicated this Saturday at 11:30 at the Recreation Department in Danielsville. Tyler Fortson Moon was killed in a lawn mower accident this past spring. The wall ball court built in his memory sits along side of the tennis courts just beyond the outfield fence of field two at the recreation department on HWY 98.
Below is a column I wrote in the Madison County Journal (published back in June's issue) remembering Tyler and what he meant to his friends here in Madison County.

I was at the Georgia game this Saturday

Despite the Clemson Tigers playing Auburn this weekend on TV, I found myself between the hedges in Athens at the Georgia game. Before you think I have changed to a Georgia fan and the fact that I would have to lose my mind to do so, I was there to support my niece who is a Georgette dancer. I sat under my brother's Bulldog tent at his tailgate but wore neutral colors--well I actually wore my Madison County gear. I was shocked however at the fact that I didn't see any drunks or fights. Despite being surrounded by the Red & Black, I had a good time spending the day with my family.

Clemson 9th in nation in offense

Clemson enters today ranked 9th in the nation in total offense (552 ypg). Last year at this time the Tigers were 88th.

Clemson vs FSU 3:30 ESPN Saturday

Well I never would have thought that Clemson would have beaten Auburn this week. After struggling against Troy and Wofford in the first two games, I wasn't expecting to see Clemson hang in with Auburn. I was glad to see so many freshmen having good games and Boyd the quarterback who tossed 4 touchdown passes.
I need a second Miracle:: Clemson to defeat Florida State on Saturday. It's going to be interesting to see if the Tigers can ride the high from Saturday or if they will follow a pattern of losing after a big win. Florida State on the other hand will be coming off a hard loss to Oklahoma and might be without their starting quarterback who went down late in the game. I'm thinking a win over FSU will push Clemson into the top 25. This could change by next Saturday but I am going to have to say FSU by 3 over my Tigers.
