It's been 10 plus years since these ladies pictured above have taken the field together as the Spurs softball team of the women's open league. On Sunday, the former Spurs reunited and entered the field for a round of batting practice followed by a reunion in which they flipped through old pictures and talked about old times on the diamond.
Still sporting the swings of old that helped the Spurs collect several tournament trophies, most of the former players had their children, spouses and parents watching from the other side of the fence.
The Spurs team was formed back in the mid 90's made up at that time of mostly high school players either from Madison County or surrounding counties. Coached by George Holloman, the Spurs took part in numerous tournaments in and around Madison County. The Spurs ended their long string of years together in the mid 2000's but the memories live on and the photos of those days on the diamond are tucked away in numerous photo albums.
In the next few weeks I'll be writing my about these days of old in my column in the Madison County Journal.
Pictured in the photo above: Front Row L-R: Kim Ott, Dee (Epps) Reynolds, Heather (Daniels) Westbrook, Kim Johnson, Melissa (Tyner) Malaier, Jamie (Whitsel) Williams, Gina (Griffeth) Dickens.
