Middle School sports season complete

A full day of tournaments for the Madison County Middle School boys and girls soccer and baseball teams took place in Elberton on Saturday. The Mustang boys soccer team won the region title in an overtime win over Franklin County but the girls came up just short of doing the same by falling to Franklin County in their championship game. This was just the first loss of the season for the Lady Mustangs who finished the season as region regular season champions.

The Mustang baseball team defeated Elbert County 3-1 to advance to the championship game against region powerhouse Stephens County. Madison County fell behind 9-3 early and despite a five run six inning rally by the Mustangs that closed margin to one run, it was Stephens County who took home the first place trophy. Madison County was the only team to defeat Stephens County in 2 years earlier in the week when the two teams met in Toccoa. The Mustangs finished the 2012 season 11-2-1.
